In this training I want to show you how to create a membership site that makes $5,000 a month. Most people think that creating a membership site is extremely technical and requires a ton of content. I think what I share in this video might surprise you. Enjoy!
Let me just say that I am really excited to get this out to you because I think this is something that could be life changing for some of you. This could be the breakthrough you need to finally achieve success online. So what I am going to do today is show how to go from 0 to $5,000 a month with membership sites.
Now for some of you that may sound like a monumental goal right now but as we go through this training I will break things down into easy steps. As I go through the training I really want you to look at the big picture and see how all this goes together and really see what’s possible. I want you to take what you learn in this training and put it into action. So let’s get right into it.
What is a membership site?
The first thing I want to do is talk about what a membership site is and the recurring income model. First of all, membership sites produce recurring income meaning that when you set up a membership site you get paid month after month. There are a couple of different ways to set this up.
One way is the Fixed Term Membership model. This means that they sign up to pay a monthly fee for a certain amount of time. For example they might sign up to be a member for 6 months and pay a monthly membership fee of $27 a month.
Another membership model is just a flat monthly fee. Meaning that they sign up and can stay a member for as long as they choose. They could cancel after the first month or remain a member forever.
The beauty of membership sites is it is one of the most predictable online income models. You know your numbers! You know how many members you have and how much each member is paying. This is one of the most reliable sources of online income. It’s not like other models where it’s a one-off purchase here and there. Its also great because if you know what your income goal is you can formulate a plan to get the exact amount of members you need in order to make your desired income.
How to Create A Membership Site That Makes $5,000 A Month
For those of you starting from scratch the thought of making $5,000 per month from one website probably seems like a lot. But I really want you to see what’s possible and think about what you can do today to make that a reality. So let’s break down the math of a membership site that generates $5,000 per month.
The first one I want to break out for you is
$5,000 = 500 members at $10 a month.
What I want to point out here is that 500 members might sound like a lot right now. But, in all actuality 500 members is not a lot. You have a $10 price point here. All you have to do is get 500 people to give you $10. When you think about how big some of the most popular niches out there are 500 members is a very small piece of those markets.
When you look at it this way you are starting to break things down. You aren’t look at $5,000 a month as a whole you are looking at a $10 a month fee and now we just have to find 500 people who want it.
Another way to look at is this
$5,000 = 50 members at $100 a month.
$5,000 = 100 members at $50 a month.
The cool thing is that none of these are big numbers. $100 a month might sound like a lot but in the grand scheme of things it’s not. If you have something well worth $100 a month there is a great chance you can find 50 people who will pay you that every month.
If you are willing to give this business model everything you have and put all your efforts into one membership site you can do this. Shift your focus on driving traffic to your squeeze page, creating content for your membership site, and telling people about your membership site. That’s all it takes guys!
If you took all the time you are currently spending building your online business and just focused on building and driving traffic to a membership site you could easily obtain the $5,000 a month goal. And since you know your numbers you could set your own goals. Maybe you don’t want to charge $100 a month or maybe you’re only looking to get to $3,000 a month etc.
You can adjust these targets to meet your specific needs. Then that becomes your target and you do everything possible to make that target a reality. At the end each month you can look at what you did and see what worked and what didn’t and improve on it.
This is a simple business model. Business is simple but people over complicate it. The people making the most money look like they have complicated systems but all that stuff is accessories to the simple stuff that really drives the majority of the profits. If you are just starting out you don’t need all that extra stuff. One simple membership site can be the trick to hitting your first income goal and you can scale from there.
And let me say this $5,000 a month is completely arbitrary. That is something a lot of people shoot for but you base this around your goals. Whatever your goal is you can set up the numbers and plug them into the formula and make that your target. You’ll know exactly how much you want to make per month, how much you going to charge and how many members you need.
How To Find Profitable Membership Site Ideas
I know it’s a cliche thing to say that you need to go out there and find something that you’re passionate about. To an extent I a agree with that but at the same time you have to find a profitable market. Something that is already a proven winner that you could go into knowing that membership site will work in that market.
If you don’t do this before your launch your site just wasting your time. If it’s not a selling topic people won’t buy and there is no reason to put in the hard work to create the membership site.
How to quickly identify a profitable niche
It starts with looking at evergreen niches. The reason you want an evergreen niche is because you don’t want to build a membership site around a trend. You want to make your membership site a long-term passive income generator. You don’t want to build it on something that won’t sell in a couple of years. You also don’t want to build it around something that is constantly evolving if you want to profit passively because you have to always make sure that your membership content is relevant and up to date.
Here and there you might have to update some content but if you focus on evergreen niches a lot of your content will be able to remain the same for years to come. The same techniques and principles will still apply. Think about this way.
People are always going to want to lose weight. Many of the same principles taught years ago are still relevant and effective. Many weightlifting and fitness routines are the same. Many diets and nutritional information is the same. This is a great example of an evergreen niche.
Are Products Being Sold In the Niche?
The next thing that we want to look at is whether or not there are a lot of products being sold in in that niche. This is a great indicator of a good niche. This can give you great ideas for your membership site because you can see what people in that market are already buying.
Look for the types of books that are being sold, the information products being sold, coaching programs, magazines, etc. This will allow you to find markets that people are already willing to invest their money. If they will buy all of those things there is a great chance they will buy a membership where they can get everything they want in one place.
If your membership is your only focus there is no doubt in my mind that you create a membership site that is the best content out there for your specific marketplace. If you can combine that effort with good research (finding what people are already buying) you can do big things fast.
Evergreen Niche Examples:
- Personal Development – People are always going to want to improve. Whether its lose weight, be more productive, be more successful, etc. People want to improve.
- Make Money – People will always want to make more money. Whether it’s make money online, getting raises in the workplace, etc. People want to make money.
- Relationships – People want to have good relationships, people want to communicate, people want to make their partner happy, people want relationships, etc.
There are many sub niches under each one of these that you can explore and you will know that you are already in an evergreen niche.
How To Build A Membership Site
Once you’ve done your research it is time to choose your membership. Our platform is what will host our membership site. The number of ways and tools out there to create membership sites is endless. I am first going to show you a few really simple ways that I highly recommend if you’re just starting out. Then I will get into some the advanced membership wordpress plugins.
What most people do wrong is the go out there and get advanced membership scripts and it’s so hard to set up that they give up before they launch. And believe me, I’ve been there.
Creating a membership site with Facebook
This is one that I absolutely love. It takes all the technical mess out of things and you can be set up in a matter of minutes. Basically this is running a membership with a Facebook group. Why does this work so well?
Its super easy to set up. Within two minutes you can have a fully functional group ready to go.
Its very engaging because it’s a community set up. People can interact with each other, interact with you, and they can like and comment on the content you post.
Creating a membership with your autoresponder
Another great way to create a membership program is with an autoresponder. With this set up basically when someone purchases your membership program that are added to an email list. The email list will be loaded with autoresponder messages that drip feeds your content. This means that the content is released within certain intervals. So you could set up each message to go out every week, two weeks, every month, or anything in between that you wanted.
With this method you could create all the content within emails or send them to a page on your website to view the content. Once they get to your website you could have videos, PDF downloads or written content. But the key is that the autoresponder does all the heavy lifting and drip feeds the content just like a fancy membership plugin will.
Another thing to point out is that you can even password protect the pages in WordPress. So in your emails you would also include the password to access the content. While this isn’t a completely secure method it works and to be honest the thieves will probably get it if they want it bad enough anyways.
Creating a membership site with WordPress
This method is a lot more complicated but can be customized as you see fit. However, this set up is for the more tech savvy membership site creators. There are a lot of wordpress plugins that you can use so I am not going to go through them all. A couple of the really popular ones are S2 Member and OptimizePress.
For my Authority Powered Lab membership site I actually use a plugin called Membersonic. This is one of the easiest to use Membership plugins I have used. I will say however that it can still be somewhat difficult if you’re not very comfortable with WordPress. But compared to the other membership plugins I have used this one is a breeze. If you want an advanced breakdown of a lot of WordPress membership plugins you should check out this comparison.
As you can see there are a number of different ways you can setup your membership site. If it’s your first time I recommend you go with the Facebook or Autoresponder set up.
How to create content for your membership site
There are a number different styles of membership sites you can create. When most people think about a membership site they think about logging into a members area where there is a video after video. I want to open your eyes to the many different possibilities for creating a profitable membership site.
Some of the ones I’m gonna talk about you probably didn’t even realize that these were memberships. You have probably heard of these types of things but didn’t realize they were using the membership model.
Mastermind Group Membership
A lot of people don’t think about mastermind group as a membership. If you are knowledgeable on a certain top and can provide valuable information you can create a mastermind group. Essentially you will be sharing training with a group of people who can work together. Once the content is created you can answer questions and administer the communication between group members.
