Looking to get more blog traffic but not sure where to start? Maybe you have tried a few things with little results? One of the four key components of my 6-Figure Blogging Formula is Lead Generation and lead generation starts with traffic. Today I am going to share a simple way to get a lot of traffic to your blog with easy to create videos.
I remember the day I created my first video for YouTube. Yikes! I remember being terrified to put it out there for the world to see. Even though it was a simple screencast video (recording my voice while filming the computer screen) it was still terrifying. The sound of my voice appalled me. I thought wow no one is going to like this.
But if there’s one thing I have learned about blogging or marketing in general it is that when you are doing things that are uncomfortable you are growing. When you push yourself to do new things its scary…its uncomfortable. But that’s how you get better. Well today, I am challenging you to get better! If you want to get more blog traffic you can do it with simple YouTube videos that link back to your blog.
You will most likely be surprised with your results. I quickly discovered after creating a few videos that people don’t really care what you sound like or if you have the best studio lighting etc. What they care about is whats in it for them? They care about the value they are getting out of your videos not the production.
How To Promote Your Blog With Videos
It all starts with good ideas for a video. What type of content is your market interested in learning about? What type of content would get your audience to your blog, on your email list, and buying your products? Just answering those questions should give you some great ideas. Still not sure what to create videos on? Try this:
Go to Amazon and pull up the kindle books section. Type your niche or some niche keywords into the search box. For this example I searched for Productivity. Here is what I got:
From that list I can come up with a ton of different potential video and blog post ideas. Here are just some that I could come up with:
- 7 Productivity Tips That Boost Your Workday Performance
- How To Work Smarter Not Harder
- How To Get More Things Done
- How To Eliminate Laziness
- How To Feel Less Overwhelmed
- 3 Tips To Maximize Your Productivity
All of these would make great video topics that would make great video and blog post topics that people would be excited to read and watch. These ideas are from the top productivity books on Amazon which says a lot. This is content that is proven to do well with your audience!
Outline Your Content
Once you have the topic for your video ready to go come up with 3 to 5 bullet points you will discuss in your video. Your goal is to record a 3 to 5 minute video that will drive traffic to your blog. Having 3 to 5 bullet points makes it easy as you just cover each bullet point for roughly a minute. Then you have a nice short video that gets people to your blog. I have found that short videos gets more people to see your call to action at the end which I’ll talk about in just a second.
How To Get More Traffic From Your Videos
There is a simple format I use on each one of my videos that leads to a lot of traffic coming back to my blog. It’s the video template that I use on almost all of my free content videos. It looks like this:
- Introduction – What I will be teaching, who am I, why they should listen
- Content – This is the meat of your video where you teach what you promised
- The upgrade – where they can get more awesome content (and join your email list)
The key to this formula is the upgrade. Some people call it a call to action but I like the term upgrade because that is the mindset you want your audience to have. You want them to have a reason to click on your link and go to your blog. By offering them some type of upgrade you will do just that.
With this strategy you could link to a squeeze page on your blog where your lead magnet/free offer is the upgrade that you are referring to. Example:
You could also say something like visit my blog for that latest and greatest posts on (your niche).
There are three ways you should be doing it on each video you create if you want to get traffic.
- You say it in the video
- You put a video annotation in that has the link that you want people to go to
- And you put it in your video description
Your best bet to get the most traffic is to include your link in all 3 places.
A similar format to the one I use is taught by Dr. Ben Adkins where he teaches the 4 things you must say on video to get people to buy from you.
Get More Blog Traffic With Great Offers
Whatever you have to offer is the key. If you are offering something your audience wants that is how you maximize your videos to get more traffic. Also, the more related your video is to your offer the better. Using my six step blogging plan offer I mentioned above I would want to make sure that I was targeting people interested in blogging when I created my video. My video would be some type of blogging tip and the upgrade would be the 6 step blogging plan. A bad example would be a forum marketing video that sends them to the 6 step blogging plan. It wouldn’t convert near as well because it is not related to my offer.
