Here is a simple 10 point blog post checklist that goes right inline with our formula to the perfect blog post.
Captivating title – Have you created a clickable title? You have to nail it with the title of your blog post There are some important elements your title should include in order to make it irresistible. The perfect title for your blog post will have the following ingredients:
- Trigger words
Introduction – Does your introduction tell the reader exactly what they will gain or get from reading your article? In your opening paragraph or introduction you want to make sure you highlight your key points and make it obvious what people will get out of your article. Your title catches the readers attention while your introduction hooks them in to reading your entire blog post.
People are busy and don’t want to waste their time. It’s important that you prove early on that you have what they are looking for. Your title made them curious so you introduction should feed that curiosity with what they want to know. Tell them exactly how your blog post will solve the problem they came looking to answer.
Body – Does the body of your article cover all he points and deliver on the promises of the title? The body of your article is where the meat is. The things you highlighted in your introduction will be discussed in depth in the body. I find it best to break out the body section into sections aligned with the key points you identified in your introduction.
Formatting – Have you used short, readable paragraphs? Have you made use of white space? Have you made effective use of headings, bullet points, bold, italicized and other formatting elements.? Having a good format is part of writing the perfect blog post. There are a number of different ways to layout your content. There are certain pieces we want to keep in place with almost every post such as your opening image and your ending call to action. However, it is important to note that different content calls for different formats and layouts.
Structure and organization – Is your article in a logical order? If steps are provided are they in the order that they should be done? If your article tells a story is it in a logical order?
Call to action – Remember why you’re blogging? Have you inserted relevant call to actions within your post? Have you at least added one call to action to the end of your article? You’re writing your blog post for a reason. It could be to grow your audience, gain email subscriptions, grow your business, etc.
Regardless of what your goal is, you have a goal that you are setting out to achieve by writing content on your blog. This is why you need to use a call to action or multiple of them to get your readers to take action. There’s much debate to say how often and where you should put your calls to action. The important thing is that you are using them. I like to include them within my blog post and certainly at the end of my blog post.
Linking – If useful to the reader have you linked to relevant content either within your site or out?
Media – Have you used media such as images and videos to enhance your content?
Value – Have you delivered value to the reader? Have you created an article that represents your brand and satisfies the readers need?
Strategic goals – Does this article fall within your strategic business goals? Is it relevant to your business and will it help driving targeted customers to your blog?
